Paramedic Intercepts

Lake Country Fire Rescue started its Paramedic program in 2000 to serve the City of Delafield and give them the best care that they deserve. Shortly thereafter, they initiated an Intercept program to serve the surrounding communities. As a result of the recent merger, this same service is now provided from the combined Lake Country Fire and Rescue. Paramedic intercepts occur when surrounding communities request that our Paramedics to respond to a variety of different emergencies to assist them in patient care. Some of the reasons we may be called are:

Trauma patients

Cardiac Chest Pain

Cardiac Arrest

Difficulty Breathing

Unresponsive Patients

High-Risk Pregnancy In Active Labor

Burn Patients

Haz Mat

Continuous Seizures

Pain Management

Over the past few years, many communities have entered agreements with LCFR for Intercepts. Seven days a week Lake Country Fire and Rescue continues to staff a Paramedic and Intercept Vehicle at the Merton Fire Department. The Paramedic staged in Merton is in addition to the fixed number of staff that serve our primary response area on a daily basis; therefore personnel are not taken away from serving our primary response area.Responding to calls in the surrounding communities gives our paramedics the opportunity to further utilize their skills, and maintain their proficiency.

These agreements are a great opportunity for our department, and others, as it leads to cost savings from shared services. Other Departments do pay for these services when they are utilized. This allows these communities to provide patients with one of the highest levels of pre-hospital care available today.
